Learning Chaos Magic Is Confusing (But I Must Keep Going Anyway) is a small Broughlike made for 2021's 7DRL Challenge.

Your goal is to go as deep as you can into the dungeon, fighting monsters and learning new spells along the way. Some tips:

  • Move with WASD. Magic with SPACE.
  • Each floor, one of your spells gets randomized. The next spell to be changed is indicated by a golden arrow.
  • Pick up gems to recover magic points.
  • You'll recover one health point if you clear all enemies in a room.

This is fun. I never realized how chess like these games are.

Yeah I like broughlikes because they can get pretty complex with only a few simple rules. Thanks for playing!

Thx for playing! :D

I love broughlikes! And this one looks nice!

But I think I missed something, I didn't understand some of the spells: electric and hurricane seem to do nothing.

Thank you! Electric is the same as ice, it stops the enemy from moving. Hurricane confuses the enemy so it doesn't attack in the next turn even if it is next to you.

Great sprites and music! Don't think I've ever played a "broughlike" before but I really liked it. Decent variety of spells and using them felt very tactical. Very approachable. Easy to play.

I’m very happy to see a broughlike! This is a really nice one, and I enjoyed working out what each of the spells did. This is my favourite submission that I’ve played so far.

It feels perhaps a bit too easy, I think the difficulty could easily increase as you make your way down the floors. I got to a score of 5150 (floor 75), but stopped as I think I could have gone on for a looooong time.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I agree that the game is on the easier side. I wanted to add some difficulty scaling and even harder enemies, but I ran out of time 🤷‍♂️
